Introduction
Worker engagement is critical to how CAF promotes decent work in the cleaning industry.
This focus is one that our members value, it is one that business and human rights experts point to as best-practice, and we are now scaling up this engagement across portfolios of property assets through online participation.
CAF members and those who have participated in CAF Building Certification know that workers are the most important source of information about working conditions in the supply chain. Indeed, over 70% of labour rights breaches we identify are found through worker engagement.
What is the CAF Portfolio Worker Engagement Program (CAF WEP)?
The CAF WEP has been developed to facilitate meaningful engagement with cleaners across property portfolios serviced by diverse suppliers. This service elevates the voice of cleaners in your supply chain and provides you with timely, first-hand information about labour risks and decent work in your portfolio.
For example, the CAF WEP will show you what percentage of your cleaners feel they are treated fairly, and how your suppliers are performing in this regard. It will also allow you to identify any serious and/or systemic risks, e.g. the proportion of workers who have faced threats and coercion in relation to their visa status, or the proportion of workers who say they are not working in safe conditions, and where these issues are occurring in the portfolio.
