CAF Briefing: Heat Stress in the Cleaning Industry

March 20 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Please join us for our first briefing of the year which will focus on Heat Stress in the Cleaning Industry. In this online event, expert panellists will be discussing the unforeseen impact environmental sustainability initiatives can have on the working conditions and workload of cleaners.

The significant energy required to cool large buildings has become a primary concern for building owners aiming to minimise their environmental impact during the summer months. While office workers enjoy the comfort of temperature-controlled environments, cleaners face a different reality. As the afternoon progresses into evening, air conditioners are powered down, which creates occupational risk to cleaners, leaving them to perform physically demanding labour in temperatures at or above 28 degrees.

CAF has identified this issue across a number of buildings, and brought it to the attention of property owners, who are now working through the challenge of balancing their environmental efforts with the health and well-being of workers within their cleaning supply chain.

Our panellists, with expertise in ESG, property services and labour rights, will explore
strategies for building owners to harmonise the environmental and social aspects of their work in sustainability. Insights from CAF Building Certification case studies will be shared to illustrate how a multi-stakeholder approach can lead to successful remediation of this occupational hazard.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to be part of a conversation that aims to make a meaningful difference in the lives of cleaners, as the property services industry grapples with the ongoing and increasing effects of climate change.
